Food – The Worst Addiction!!

Food is the worst addiction that no one talks about. The food industry is presenting us packed “food” not only with a low nutrition value, but infused with toxins like additives and preservatives that diminish the function of our metabolism and eventually cause different deadly desieses. The worst thing is that these facts are not supported scientifically. Only people like me are raising their voice because we have cured ourselves only with changing our diet and nothing else.

Now after 2 years, I do not have any problems with my thyroid gland which at a time was specified as a Hypothyroidism – too little certain crucial hormones produced by the thyroid gland. I was prescribed therapy that will regulate its function and improve my metabolism. I am not under any medicine anymore and I control my health with my food intake only. My thyroid gland functions normally, no bone or joint pain, no fatty liver any more and my skin has improved drastically. How did I do it?

Changing diet is not easy at all, especially at the beginning when you have to switch from one taste you were used to before to something else. But everything is a habit, trust me! Living a healthy lifestyle is feeling good about yourself by doing what is right for your body. Taking care of your health helps prevent and even cure chronic diseases and long term illnesses. So, it is well worth the effort 🙂

When I told my family I have to change my diet, my mother asked what precisely that meant. I told her that is nothing special except excluding the bread and other pasta, noodles or pastry I have already eaten with the one made from alternative gluten free flours. – And just don’t put any flour in the meals you have used until now, only the one I am prescribed to cook with.

And really it was not a big deal. Macedonian traditional food is very tasteful, healthy and full with vitamins. Because of the warm climate, we are provided with excellent growth conditions for a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs.

So it was about time to go back to the roots of my North Macedonian Cuisine !!

Diagnose – Celiac Disease

In January 2017, after years of struggle with my digestive system, I was diagnosed with a beginning stage of Celiac Disease. Honestly, I felt relieved because I thought I had cancer. Yes, not a joke, I was so sick some times that I thought I had some terrible disease and my end is not far from me.

Every night in the last 3 years before my diagnose, I remember, I would come home from work, exhausted and trembling. I did not want to talk to anyone, just simply went straight to my bedroom from the entrance door and laid there until my body calmed down. Then I would take a shower, ate something and went to bed. And that was the key moment when the sickness started, after the body calmed down. In that moment I would start feeling that my inner side of my stomach’s upper part was tearing me apart. It is not like you have a food poisoning, it is worse. As a kid – because I loved fast food, actually I grew up on hamburgers, french fries and pizzas, sweets as much as you can think of – if I had some food poisoning (actually very rarely happened), I would vomit and that was it. This was worse. No vomiting helped. Diarrhea was something I got used to, I simply started living with it or feeling bloated and not having any need to go to the toilet.

To make the long story short, finally I was told what was my problem and I immediately changed my diet. I remember my close friend took the results from the hospital and read my diagnose on the phone. I closed the phone with him and searched the internet and… Alleluia, Eureka!! – Not a big deal – I thought!! I told my family that from now on I have to eat different food and just simply start living healthier.

But what actually meant – eating healthier food and start living a healthy life??
